eir Special Olympics Ireland - National Collection Day 2016

Friday, April 22nd is Special Olympics Ireland National Collection Day, proudly supported by eir. This is the biggest annual fundraiser for Special Olympics Ireland; they need 3,000 volunteers, to take to the streets in every community throughout Ireland to help them raise €650,000 in just 24 hours.

eir and Special Olympics Ireland met with some of the dedicated volunteers from across Ireland and asked them to share their volunteering story. Limerick volunteer Brian O’Callaghan: “I’ve made lifelong friends, the Special Olympics family is very strong and the bond between all the volunteers is amazing. Disability should not mean inability and it’s up to each and every one of us to enable these athletes to reach their true potential.”

Special Olympics Ireland is committed to developing their services so that every Irish person with an intellectual disability has the option of joining a club and participating in sport in their local community.

With 9,100 registered athletes participating in 15 sports in 370 clubs around Ireland, every cent counts for Special Olympics. Volunteer support is needed in every country, both North and South of Ireland.
