This year marks the 145th staging of the Open Championship and the ninth occasion it has been held at Royal Troon. First held in 1860 when Willie Park, one of only eight entrants, carded the lowest score over two rounds played in a single day, the Open Championship is the oldest of the four majors and the one that remains closest to the sport’s roots.
